A man died Sunday after two boats collided on Barnegat Bay, off the northern tip of Long Beach Island, according to the New Jersey State Police.

A 36-foot speedboat collided with a 16-foot Carolina skiff Sunday afternoon offshore of Barnegat Light in the Oyster Creek channel, State Police Sgt. Brian Polite told the Asbury Park Press.

Three people were thrown into the water as a result of the crash, which was reported about 2:20 p.m., Coast Guard spokesman David Micallef said. Coast Guard personnel from the Barnegat Light Station pulled them from the water and took them ashore, he said.

New Jersey State Police told NBC10 a 36-foot speed boat and a 16-foot Carolina skiff collided at 2:23 p.m. on Barnegat Bay off Barnegat Light in Ocean County. The skiff sustained the most damage.

The operator of the skiff boat, 26-year-old Chan-Hee Kang of Hainesport, died from his injuries, according to NJ.com.

Another man on the skiff suffered minor injuries and is being treated at the Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford Township. A third person on the skiff as well as four people who were on the speed boat were not hurt during the incident.
