Levon Helm Dies at 71[VIDEO]

More sad news to report.. The drummer and the singer for The Band has passed away  due to complications of throat cancer.Levon Helm was only 71 and lived in Woodstock, New York.  Levon was of member of The Band from the late 60's through the early 80's. The Band was inducted to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Levon also won grammy awards for his solo material in 2007, 2009 and 2011.

The Band was also Bernie Taupin and Elton John's favorite group back in the 70's. Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics for the classic "Levon" because he was so inspired by Levon Helm.

Elton John named his son "Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John", in part as he was born on Christmas Day 2010. Levon Helm was born on Christmas Day as in the song.
