Cold air advection will push temperatures downward starting today, and there's also a chance for a few raindrops or snowflakes this weekend.

Here are your weather headlines for Friday, November 20, 2015...

Friday

After Thursday's persistent wet weather, a cold front pushed through New Jersey last night. That has begun the process of returning temperatures to near-or-below normal through this weekend.

A brisk northwest wind up to about 20 mph will keep a subtle chill in the air this morning, even though temperatures are fairly mild in the 50s. Those temperatures really won't go anywhere today, probably taking a brief dip through the late morning before recovering to the mid 50s or so by this afternoon. (By the way, we probably have already hit our daily high temperature early this morning.)

So our weather improves for Friday, and temperatures won't be too chilly... Yet...

Saturday

Low temperatures on Saturday morning will likely fall into the 30s across New Jersey. So it looks like a frosty morning for most in the state, with a light freeze possible in the coldest places.

In fact, Saturday looks quite cool all day, as high temperatures only reach about the upper 40s (North Jersey) to lower 50s (South Jersey). That's closer to a normal early December day than a mid-November day... but with that comparison, I'm really just nit-picking. Saturday's weather will be dry and winds will remain light.

Sunday and Beyond...

A storm system will dig across the Midwest and Great Lakes this weekend, dumping some impressive early season snows along the way. New Jersey will be barely clipped by the tail-end of this system early Sunday morning, which makes for a challenging forecast. In addition, a brief surge of warmer temperatures means most of what falls will probably be rain (if anything at all). I don't want to rule out a light snow shower early Sunday morning (about 4 a.m. to 8 a.m.), especially in the higher elevations of North Jersey. Don't hold your breath.

Even more certain is that behind the potential wave of showers will come a reinforcing shot of cooler air... In fact, the coldest air of the season so far! (Are you tired of hearing me say that yet?) Sunday afternoon's temperatures will be limited to the upper 40s with a stiff breeze. That's almost cold enough that we have to start talking about wind chill.

Monday looks to be the bottom of this temperature tumble, with high temperatures only ranging from about 39 to 43 degrees. The sunshine will be nice, but that will be a pretty cold start to the Thanksgiving week.

Fortunately, temperatures will climb steadily through the rest of next week. Right now, I'm thinking upper 40s for Tuesday, lower 50s for Wednesday, and upper 50s for Thanksgiving. The weather looks clear and dry through at least the first part of the holiday weekend - making for excellent travel conditions for those headed over the river and/or through the woods.
