Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.
This week we met Layla the cat....

Here is some information on Layla from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“ Layla is pretty, medium sized, brown and black striped tiger cat with big yellow-green eyes. She is approximately 7 years old.

Poor Layla was driven from Pennsylvania in a taped up cardboard box that she could not see out of except for a hole that fit only the tip of her muzzle. When she arrived at the shelter, staff had to cut the box open because it had been taped top to bottom with packaging tape. She was extremely stressed and really unhappy.

Layla was originally adopted as a young kitten to a woman that claimed that she was adopting for herself.

Fast forward 7 years, she returned Layla to the HSOC stating that she could no longer keep her because she was moving to a rental that didn't allow pets. Further questioning by staff revealed she adopted her, all those years ago, for her adult daughter that resides in another state who recently moved to place that wasn't allowed pets. Request for Layla's owner to call the HSOC, so we could learn more about the cat have been ignored.

It was a difficult transition the first week for Layla at the shelter. She missed home. With the help of volunteers and staff working with her daily, she began to trust people again. She's affectionate and vocal and seems to enjoy catnip. Layla would be a loyal companion to a single person or a quiet family. She may be okay with feline friendly dogs but would prefer to be the only cat. Come meet Layla today."
