Since releasing Cheek to Cheek last year, Lady Gaga and her current musical partner-in-crime, Tony Bennett, have formed a strong friendship. So what do you get one of your besties for his 89th birthday?

A massive five-tiered cake!

The "Born This Way" singer surprised Bennett with the elaborate confection at the end of their show at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on Saturday evening (Aug. 1). She also serenaded him with Duke Ellington's "I'm Beginning To See The Light" and then led everyone in a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday."

While it would have been even more awesome to know that Gaga baked the cake, she reportedly enlisted the talents of Duff Goldman's Charm City Cakes, which is based in Baltimore. The cake was inspired by the dessert that the late President John F. Kennedy got on his birthday and when Marilyn Monroe sang her unforgettable version of "Happy Birthday Mr. President."

Here's a close up Tony and Gaga getting the fondant treatment.

Although Mr. Bennett's birthday isn't until Aug. 3, this definitely a sweet gesture (all puns intended) from the pop singer.

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett have been touring around the world promoting their jazzy collaboration Cheek to Cheek.
