Jon Stewart Says ‘BS Is Everywhere’ In ‘Daily Show’ Goodbye

The higher-ups at Fox News will sleep a little more soundly tonight.

Yesterday (August 6), after more than 16 years at the helm of Comedy Central’s The Daily ShowJon Stewart signed off amid a mix of tears, laughs and the anchor’s signature pointed jabs at conservative cable news. His former correspondents—everyone from Mo Rocca to Steve Carell—sent him off by voicing an amassing of resentments; his protege, Stephen Colbert, insisted “You are infuriatingly good at your job.” And in a final address to viewers, Jon did what he’s always done best: served as a bullsh– watchdog.

“Bullsh–,” he begins in the clip above, “is everywhere.”

The anchor goes on to say bullsh– comes in three flavors: “making bad things sound like good things,” “hiding bad things under mountains of bullsh–” and bullsh– that involves contriving ignorance to avoid action (a la apathy toward the very real threat of climate change).

Thankfully, though, Jon is hopeful the recent laziness of bullsh–ers means a cure to bullsh– is within reach.

“So I say to you tonight, friends, the best defense against bullsh– is vigilance,” he declares. “So if you smell something, say something.”

Comedian Trevor Noah will take over as host of The Daily Show on September 28, and he has some big changes in store.
