The Garden State seems to be made up three areas - North Jersey, Central Jersey, and good old South Jersey. Did you know that back in 1980 South Jersey actually voted to secede from New Jersey?

According to a recent story from the Asbury Park Press, five out of six counties from South Jersey cast their vote to secede from the Garden State, including Atlantic and Cape May counties.

The referendum that appeared on the 1980 ballot was mostly heartfelt, but it was of a more of a  whimsical political movement that started in the mid-1970s. Close to 68,0000 voted against the referendum  but, close to 47,000 voted for South Jersey to become the 51st state.

Reddit user Robertocommendez0202 poses the question, "If South Jersey were a separate state, what might the capital be? Also, who might the governor be?"

Some of the responses for a possible state capitol for South Jersey included Mays Landing, Cape May Courthouse, Vineland, AC, Camden, Cherry Hill, and Hammonton.

Philly Mag reported on a story from the Inquirer on a movement to split the Garden State in half roughly 40 years ago.

Take our poll and cast your vote for a potential capitol for the state of South Jersey.
