My absolute favorite item in my house is my piano.  The piano (like my house) is very old.  I like old things.  They usually have a lot of character, and my piano certainly does.

I never had one growing up, but I always wanted one.  Whenever I went to a friend's house who had a piano, I would sit down and try to play something.  I really didn't know how to play much of anything.  I never had piano lessons.  I would just bang on the keys and entertain myself.
Then I grew up, and one day I saw an old piano advertised in the newspaper.  I just knew I had to have it.  It needed some repairs and it was very expensive to move, but I didn't care.  I had it tuned so that my family and I could enjoy it.  Well, it turned out that no one actually played it much.  It sat in the living room collecting dust, and when we moved, it sat in the dining room pretty much doing the same thing...nothing.  But I still love my old piano and I hope to keep it forever.  My kids never played it much, but maybe someday my future grand kids will.  Or maybe someday yours truly will sit down at the piano and play something I used to play when I was a kid.  And it will take me back to a place and time long ago, when life was simpler and time seemed to stand still.  And maybe someday I will take those piano lessons after all.  :)
