Ok so we are ringing in the New Year and many people will be indulging in champagne or other alcoholic beverages. While you don’t set out to overdo it, sometimes you get caught up in the celebration and end up intoxicated. Of course we all know we never ever want to drive in that condition, but as the bed spins and you wake up with a pounding head, the fun of the night before turns to regret and a vow to never do that again.   A hangover is no fun but there are ways to overcome that terrible feeling quicker. Here are some of the top ways.

  • 1

It's always best to eat something prior to partaking in any drinking. Fatty food especially slows the absorption of alcohol into your bloodstream. While food itself won't prevent the hangover, it can help.

  • 2

    Stay Hydrated

Alcohol dehydrates you and that is one of the reasons you feel so bad.  Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated is one of the best things you can do to overcome a hangover.

  • 3

    No Hair of the Dog

Hair of the dog, or drinking more alcohol the day after a night a drinking, will not cure a hangover. In fact, it is one of the worst thing to do.

Alcohol is toxic, which is what causes the headache, sluggishness, and nausea of a hangover. And while drinking more booze can temporarily reduce those symptoms it will prolong your recovery and just lead to a more severe hangover when you stop drinking.

    Sleep

Lack of sleep can make a hangover worse.  While alcohol makes it easier to crash, it can also disrupt sleep. If you can manage to get some rest it might make you feel better.

    Electrolytes

Alcohol is a diuretic which makes you urinate more, and every you do that you flush electrolytes from your body, so an electrolyte drink before you go to bed or after you get up may ease the effects.
