More bad news for South Jersey retail stores and retail employees. Sears announced Wednesday that it would be shutting down unprofitable stores across the country — including its location at Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing

Sears said in a release that it would be closing 46 “unprofitable” stores in total in November. According to the Press of Atlantic City, the Hamilton Mall Sears and its accompanying Sears Auto Center are on the closure list.  The store's closing appears set for late November.

Sears has been an anchor store at the Hamilton Mall since the mall opened in 1987, when the local Sears moved to Hamilton mall from the Shore Mall.

Employees at the closing stores will receive severance pay and the opportunity to apply for open positions at other Kmart and Sears stores. Kmarts in Pleasantville and Middle Township closed in March 2017.The company did not rule out future closures.Source: Press of Atlantic City
