We brought a Lite Rock Pizza Party to Rainer Birkenstock's class at Galloway Township Middle School on Friday.

Mr. Birkenstock, a seventh grade math teacher at GTMS was February's Lite Rock Teacher of the Month, but snow days held us up until now on the celebratory party.

Thanks to Capri Pizza and Grill in Northfield for cooking the delicious pizza we all enjoyed!

I was so impressed with Mr. Birkenstock and his class.  His students had all struggled with math previously and had been assigned to him for special education instruction.

Shawn McHale's mom, Lori, had written in her nomination what a difference Mr. Birkenstock had made in her son's education this year and other students in the class echoed that sentiment.

With his mild-mannered, caring style, this teacher is helping a class full of once struggling students blossom and reach their potential, and it's a wonderful thing to witness.

This is the reason for the Lite Rock Teacher of the Month promotion; to showcase and spotlight teachers around South Jersey who are truly making a difference in their classrooms.

If you know of such a person, tell me about that teacher.  Nominate a deserving South Jersey teacher to be the Lite Rock Teacher of the Month.

Rainer Birkenstock wins a membership to Island Gym for being named the Lite Rock Teacher of the Month. His nominating student, Shawn McHale, could be the winner of a $2000 scholarship at the end of the school year.

Listen to the student’s greeting which we recorded Friday in Mr. Birkenstock's class at Galloway Township Middle School.
