The one glimmer of anything positive in the otherwise horribly sad passing of Cara McCollum today was the news that she had made the decision to become an organ donor.

McCollum, the former Miss New Jersey, and the anchor for NJN TV died this morning from injuries she received in a car accident last week.

The 24-year-old Margate resident had made the decision to try to help the one of the 3,527 people in New Jersey waiting for an organ or tissue transplant. Already, 2.3 million residents of New Jersey have donated organs to help save lives.
