A full thunder moon will stroll into South Jersey this weekend. Fingers crossed for clear skies so astronomy lovers will be able to check it out!

Space.com says that the moon will be completely full at 12:07 AM on Sunday, July 9th. The moon will rise about 4 hours before reaching nearly full peak. This will be the first full moon of the summer season.

The Thunder Moon got its name based upon the seasons. In July, thunderstorms are a daily occurrence in many parts of the United States. The Thunder Moon reflected the time of the season for some Native American groups.

The moon will also be nearly full on both July 8th and 10th for those who miss this summer's Thunder Moon.
