David Akers, a frequent pro bowler during his 12 seasons as the kicker with the Philadelphia Eagles, will speak at the Ocean City Tabernacle’s 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday, May 29.
The free event is open to all at the Tabernacle, 550 Wesley Avenue in Ocean City.

Akers has a summer home in Ocean City.

He also played for the Carolina Panthers, Washington Redskins, San Francisco 49ers, and Detroit Lions. Akers was selected for the Pro Bowl six times in his career and was at one point tied for the longest field goal in NFL history.

Akers is set to talk about his journey in becoming one of the league’s most accurate kickers during his career. At one time, Akers was a substitute teacher and held other odd jobs before his NFL career took off with the Eagles.
