Five Things to Know About the New Wal-Mart Coming to EHT
After years of delays and legal wrangling, the official groundbreaking for the new Egg Harbor Township Wal-Mart Supercenter being built on the Black Horse Pike at Fire Road was held Wednesday.
According to the Press of Atlantic City, work on the Oak Tree Plaza anchored by the Wal-Mart has been underway since June 10. Developer Wolfson Group, from Plymouth Meeting. Pa., are planning a summer 2017 opening.
Here are five things you should know about the new Wal-Mart coming to EHT:
- The Wal-Mart Supercenter will occupy about 190,000 square-feet of the planned 250-sq. ft. shopping plaza
- Developer Steve Wolfson has been planning this Wal-Mart-anchored shopping center since 2003. The project encountered several delays, including a lawsuit filed against Egg Harbor Township and its Planning Board by the owners of ShopRite supermarkets
- Oak Tree Plaza will feature another 40,000 sq.ft. of available retail space expected to be occupied by Chick-Fil-A, Applebee's, Petco, a bank and other businesses
- The EHT Wal-Mart is being built on the site of the former Atlantic City Electric corporate headquarters
- The new Wal-Mart project is expected to generate approximately $1 million per year in tax revenues for the township as well as more than 400 jobs.
