A fire on the boardwalk in Seaside has fully engulfed a longtime ice cream stand in Seaside Park at Funtown Pier. The fire has also destroyed much of the southern end of the boardwalk.

The fire is being classified as a 6-alarm blaze. Fire crews from several communities are on the scene battling the blaze which continues to rage on the boardwalk.

The plume of black smoke can be seen from parts of Brick in Ocean County. The fire has made its way as far as the Beachcomber. Route 35 in Seaside Heights is closed in  both directions between 24th Avenue and Route 37.

Due to high winds fire crews are having a tough time controlling the blaze.  The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department has asked everybody to stay away from the area.
