Leave it to those crazy Brits to lead a crusade to unravel the secret of... a perfect grilled cheese sandwich.  Actually, making a grilled cheese sandwich seems rather hard to screw up to me, aside from perhaps forgetting the cheese or a cooking pan, but maybe I'm not a true G.C. connoisseur like the British.

As reported on ABC's Good Morning America, the U.K.'s Royal Society of Chemistry teamed with the British Cheese Board to create a complex formula that will give you the "perfect slice of cheese on toast."

The perfect slice can be made by melting 1.7 ounces of sliced hard cheese, such as cheddar, on a slice of white bread, .39 inches thick, under the grill.

The cheese on toast should sit at a distance of 4 inches from the heat source at a temperature of 239 degrees F. It needs to cook for four minutes to achieve the perfect consistency and taste.

Here is more from the official press release, including....the perfect grilled cheese recipe.  Boy, do you owe me now. Stop back next time when I'll help you boil the perfect egg.
