Ex-Mays Landing Gymnastics Coach Charged With Assaulting Girl Decades Ago

A man who worked as a gymnastics coach in Mays Landing more than 25 years ago has been charged with sexually assaulting an underage girl student in the 1980s and 90's.

Thomas Waddell, 54, was arrested Friday at this Bergen County home after a nine-month investigation, according to the Associated Press.

The Union County prosecutor's office said Tuesday the investigation began after the alleged victim wrote to state police, saying the assaults took place between 1989 and 1991.

Prosecutors allege the assaults occurred when the girl was under 13 and Waddell was coaching at Perfect Balance Gymnastics Academy in Mays Landing and at Eastern Gymnastics Academy in Cranford, Union County.
