Sixty years after it was decided Galloway could get by without a  real highway exit, the new intersection 41 is set to open before month's end.

The original construction of the Garden State Parkway in the 1950's filtered Galloway traffic through the Atlantic City Service Area and that's the way it has been ever since.

That will all about to change. The Galloway Township Office of Emergency Management say they have received word from the New Jersey Turnpike Authority that on Friday, February 27th at 5am the new interchange will be open and operational.

“Access to and from the Garden State Parkway via the Atlantic City Rest Area will close at that date and time.”

Access to Jimmie Leeds Road will be routed to the new Exit 41 of the Garden State Parkway and commuters will not be able to get to Jimmie Leeds Road through the current rest area after 5 am.

“If a commuter were to inadvertently get off on the rest area instead of the new Exit 41, the only option will be to get back on the parkway and go to the next legal exits for a u-turn,” the Turnpike Authority said. “In the case of north-bound commuters, it would mean Exit 50 in Burlington County as there is no legal u-turn until that exit.”

After 60 years of doing things a certain way, having a real traffic exit might take a little getting used to in Galloway.
