Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met “Elizabeth” the cat.

Elizabeth is a 12 year old friendly, affectionate, brown and black tiger striped domestic short haired cat, she was abandoned when her owners were evicted from their home.

Flea infested and starving, Elizabeth was rescued by a concerned neighbor that noticed her declining condition and realized she had been left behind with nowhere to go. This caring citizen decided to give her a home.

Unfortunately, Elizabeth prefers to be the only cat and didn’t fare well with the existing cat in the household. It’s been over 2 years since Elizabeth was surrendered to the shelter. She was adopted into a home and was a loyal companion to a senior citizen for 9 months until he passed away.

Elizabeth was returned by the family members. Unfortunately they had other cats too. Recently Elizabeth was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. This condition is maintained easily by administering a pill twice daily. The medication is inexpensive and Elizabeth takes it well.

Otherwise, Elizabeth is in good health. Elizabeth would be a wonderful addition to most home situations. She gets along with all humans but prefers to be the only pet; a calm dog may be ok. NO CATS. Please open your home to Elizabeth. She’ll be sleeping in your bed tonight!
