A strong high pressure will be in control of our weather for the next few days, leading to bright, sunny skies and above-normal temperatures.

Here are your weather headlines for Tuesday, November 3, 2015...

Sunny, Warm, Dry Days

Today will be another one of those autumn days for which it's difficult to know how to dress... A chilly, frosty morning will lead to a warm, sunny day.

Clearing skies allowed temperatures to the 30s and 40s this morning - admittedly cooler than expected, and cool enough to produce some patchy frost to start the day. In addition - even though our air is pretty dry - temperatures have fallen to the dew point in spots, so some patchy fog has developed this morning. As of this writing, the fog isn't too thick, but use caution if you encounter a patch of dense fog on your morning commute.

Bright sunshine and blue skies will help temperatures warm very quickly through the late morning and afternoon hours. High temperatures today are forecast to end up between about 68° and 73°. That's 10+ degrees above normal, and more reminiscent of an early October day than an early November day.

Tonight, thermometers shouldn't dip quite as low, as dew points are expected to rise slowly. I'm thinking most low temperatures will end up in the mid to upper 40s overnight.

We will enjoy another sunny, warm, dry day for Wednesday. This morning's models surprisingly backed off the 70+ degree highs. I see no reason for the cooldown, so I'm optimistically keeping lower 70s in the forecast for Wednesday afternoon. Frankly, it doesn't matter if the thermometer ends up at 67° or 73° - Wednesday is going to be another unseasonably warm day.

Scattered Showers Thursday

The only bump in this forecast comes on Thursday, as clouds and scattered showers return to the forecast. While raindrops are probable for just about everyone in New Jersey, forecast rainfall totals have decreased since yesterday. Models are now showing about a tenth of an inch for most of New Jersey on Thursday. The lone exception might be along the southern coast, as a band of light to moderate rain is currently forecast to clip the state on Thursday night. Overall, this rain looks very light - hardly anything, especially considering our continuing rainfall deficit since the summertime.

Cooler Air Returns

We should squeeze out one more day in the 70s on Friday, although the exact temperature forecast will depend heavily on whether the clouds clear out. I'm holding on to a warm solution for Friday's forecast, featuring breaks of sun. In this case, Friday will be the warmest day of the week with highs between about 68° to 76°. Winds will be up on Friday as well, sustained at 15 to 25 mph, with the potential for higher gusts.

Early Saturday morning, a cold front will deliver another round of light showers potentially through about midday. Additionally, as the name implies, this cold front will eventually deliver cooler air. The effects of this cooldown will be partially felt on Saturday, but I think high temperatures will still make it to the above-normal mark, in the 60s.

Sunday will be significantly cooler with highs only in the 50s... That will make Sunday a full 20 degrees cooler than Friday.

I'd comment that Mother Nature needs to "make up her mind" with all these wild temperature swings from above-normal to below... But this is what autumn weather in New Jersey is all about!
