Those who live in the area know how dangerous driving on West Jersey Avenue in Egg Harbor Township can be.

An accident Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of a local resident.

Egg Harbor Township Police say a two car accident at about 4pm at the intersection of West Jersey  and Fernwood Avenues resulted in the death of Pauline Camarota, 62, of EHT.

According to police:

A 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, operated by Camarota,  was traveling south on Fernwood Avenue approaching the stop sign at the intersection of West Jersey Avenue when it failed to stop or hesitate at the intersection. Camarota’s vehicle was struck by a Hyundai Tucson, operated by Abigail Dingman, 17 years of age of Egg Harbor Township, which was traveling eastbound on West Jersey Avenue. Both vehicles left the roadway onto the southeast corner of the intersection where the PT Cruiser struck a tree.
Dingman and her passenger, Barbara Thomas, were belted into their seats in conjunction with airbag deployment. The driver of the PT Cruiser was not seat belted in, but the vehicle’s airbags did deploy.
Camarota was transported from the scene by the Egg Harbor Township Rescue Squad and AtlantiCare Paramedic Units. She was airlifted by Pennstar to the AtlantiCare, City Division where she succumbed to her injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
