Egg Harbor Township has applied for a $2.4M FEMA grant to continue the project of demolishing the eyesore motels along the Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, if approved, the grant would allow for acquiring and demolishing the four remaining motels along the stretch; Destiny Inn, Bay Point Inn, Budget Motel and the Hi Ho Motel.

The plan is to convert the land into green space, possibly restoring wetlands to the strip  with a federal grant from FEMA's flood mitigation grant assistance program.

The four motels have frequent tidal flooding problems and together has amassed an amazing 56 flood claims over a ten-year period, valued at $3.8 million, Matt von der Hayden, Egg Harbor Township's Deputy Administrator told the Press.

In 2015, Egg Harbor Township used a $3 million grant from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority to tear down five dilapidated West Atlantic City motels on this route which were an even bigger blight to the appearance leading into Atlantic City.
