New Jersey State Police are warning residents about a scam that has been pulled in the state.

Apparently, calls have been made with the caller claiming to be from the State Police, requesting payments by credit card for an outstanding warrant. The caller threatens a quick trip to jail for those who fail to comply.

State Police officials stress that this is a scam, perpetrated by unknown suspects:

The New Jersey State Police does not call people to solicit funds over the phone for an outstanding warrant or any other purpose. If you are called by someone stating they are from the State Police asking for your credit card information, do not engage in conversation. Simply hang up the phone. The matter is currently under investigation.
