Steven Loughney, Jr. grew up in Chelsea Heights section of Atlantic City and was well-known and well-liked by many.

As the news of his death spread Monday, those friends reacted with shock, filling the man's Facebook page with heartfelt tributes and posts of disbelief .



 

Loughney, 28, was found dead by his girlfriend Sunday night in his home on the 200 block of South Metropolitan Avenue. The cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy with may show Loughney was the first homicide of 2016 in Atlantic County.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that Loughney was working at a local construction job since returning to the area recently from a trip to Pennsylvania.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit was called to the scene. The unit investigates all homicides in the county.

The investigation is being conducted by Major Crimes, Atlantic City police and the State Medical Examiner's Office.
