For the first time in seven years, Galloway Township plans to hire new officers for the Township police force.

This is big news in Galloway, where budget cuts forced a 40% reduction in police in 2008, bringing the number of officers down from 78 to 53 today.

The good news is Galloway is now ready to add to that police number. The township plans to start by hiring one full-time officer and two, class II officers. A full-time Galloway cop earns $44,575 plus benefits.  Class II officers earn $14 an hour with no benefits.

Think you have what it takes to be a new Galloway Township cop?

Assuming that you are at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or state certified G.E.D., read and write the English language proficiently, have no criminal record and are of sound moral character, there is still one more hurdle you will need to clear to be hired. The physical fitness test.

Here's what you will be required to do to pass the test as a Galloway cop, according to the Galloway Township Police website...

The test is pass/fail. Participants must pass the minimum cut-point in each event to move on to the next event. Failure in any event ends the test. The cut-points for each event are as follows:

  • Standing Vertical jump - 16” (16” above a fully extended arm and hand)
  • Pushups - 21 (lower until chest touches a foam block, resting permitted in the upward position only)
  • Situps - 29 in 1 (one) minute (hands behind the head)
  • 300 meter run - 64 seconds
  • 1.5 mile run - 14:46 (9:50 per mile pace would be about 14:45 in case you were trying to do the math – you probably wouldn’t want to plan on being that close to 14:46)
