After endless speculation about his political future, Gov. Chris Christie is set to return to a familiar place to make the biggest announcement of his career.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, sources confirm that Christie will enter the 2016 presidential race during a Tuesday event at Livingston High School.

So what is the significance of the Essex County town and school?

Christie’s family moved to Livingston from Newark in 1967 following the city’s riots. The governor was a 1980 graduate from Livingston High School before attending the University of Delaware.

He has, on many occassions, spoken fondly about his times at the North Jersey high school, where he was known as an active and affable member of the student body.

Christie served as class president for three years and played catcher on the Lancers baseball team.

In fact, the governor remains close with many former classmates. He has even attended several alumni events during his time as New Jersey’s governor, including his 35th class reunion in April.

The school inducted him into its hall of fame in 2013.

A Livingston School District spokesperson had no comment on the initial reports of the rumored announcement.

"Great Hopes make Great Men" was the very fitting quote he chose for the 1980 yearbook.

Christie will be in our studio tonight at 7 p.m. for the June edition of 'Ask the Governor.'
