Chrissy is a Sweet Cat With a Sad Story – Pet of the Week
Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.
If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.
All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.
This week we met “Chrissy” the cat.
Here is some information on Chrissy from the Humane Society of Ocean City:
“Chrissy is a sweet, very vocal 9-year old orange and white domestic short haired cat. She would do best in a quiet low activity home. She would prefer to be an only pet but may be ok with another calm cat. A perfect companion for a senior citizen!
Unfortunately, this is Chrissy’s second time with the HSOC. She was brought to us when she was 4 years old after her owner passed away. It took an entire year for the right person to come in the door and adopt her.
It seemed like Chrissy found her forever home. However, that was not the case. Even though her owner was moving into a pet friendly assisted living facility; she chose not to take Chrissy with her.
This was hard for us to understand since the HSOC gets so many phone calls from devastated senior citizens that cannot take their beloved pets with them to assisted living facilities or nursing homes.
Chrissy’s owner felt that she would not handle the move to a new home well. It was explained to her that surrendering her to the shelter would be more stressful than a new environment would ever be, especially at her age. But, the woman’s mind was made up. Chrissy has dealt really well with her return to the shelter and is patiently waiting for her new home.”
