You may soon have to prove how many chickens you have per acre on your property in Galloway. You won't be able to profit from the sale of any eggs those chickens produce. And, no roosters will be allowed.

They are some of the proposals under consideration from the "chicken committee" established by Galloway Township to address the growing trend of keeping backyard chickens, according to Shore News Today.

Some people think chickens smell and make too much noise to be a part of neighborhood life. So, a compromise is being sought that will keep both sides of fowl debate a little happier, including those who only want to be around a chicken when it's served with mashed potatoes and gravy.

“We don’t want to be the chicken police here,” said Councilman Frank Gargione, head of the township’s chicken committee.  Now there's a campaign slogan for you.

The plan will be officially hatched at the next council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Homeowners who have more than the allowable number of chickens would have 180 days to remove them from the property. There would be a $20 annual licensing fee per property owner.
