The Cape-Atlantic league voted today to make Lower Cape May Regional to forfeit the rest of the schedule after deciding to forfeit their Friday night game against Holy Spirit.

CAL president Mike Gatley said the vote was 14-3 with five abstentions.

"They are forfeiting because of safety, they don't have varsity level players," said Gatley on the Sports Bash.  "If it's a safety issue today, it will be a safety issue a few weeks ago."

Lower’s average margin of defeat is 42.6 points and they are comprised of mostly freshmen and sophomores - 21 of their 26 players are ninth or tenth graders.  Holy Spirit on the other hand is the top team in South Jersey by many publications and a three-time defending state champion made up of mostly seniors.

Another interesting development is not the fact that Holy Spirit will drop down to the smaller school National division next season that will feature Lower Cape May again next season on their schedule.

"It's something we will look into with out Football committee," Gatley admitted.
