Bomb Squad Removes Explosive From Brigantine Home

Imagine finding an explosive left behind while moving in to your newly purchased home. Welcome to the neighborhood! That's what happened Saturday to two residents moving in to their new Brigantine home.

Brigantine fire and police were called to a home on Heald Road between East Evans Boulevard and Sheridan Place, according to the Press of Atlantic City, after the new homeowners found unknown type of explosive.

A Facebook post from Brigantine firefighters says "the material was old, extremely degraded and appeared to be labeled as "smokeless powder". The house was evacuated as a precaution and the Atlantic City Bomb Squad was called to remove the explosive material which was identified as gun powder.

The street was closed and the house was evacuated for about two hours while the situation was investigated.

No one was injured and the owners were allowed to reenter their home upon removal of the material. Neighbors told the Press of Atlantic City that the previous owners, a husband and wife, had lived together in the home for more than 10 years.
