The Atlantic City Bomb Squad was called in to investigate a possible explosive device last night near 36th and Central Avenue in Ocean City.

NBC-40 TV reports that police responded to a call about a firework or smoke device in a car Tuesday evening. A police spokesman said the owner of the vehicle was cooperating with the investigation.

The bomb squad removed the device from the vehicle and detonated it on the 36th beach.  The authorities chose to take the utmost precaution because of the amount of people presently vacationing in Ocean City.

As of 8:45pm Tuesday, the Ocean City Police Department declared there was no threat to the public.  The investigation continues this morning.
