Never give your personal information over the phone. This includes your address, name and your social security number.

According to police, phone scammers are posing as computer repair technicians offering free scans to detect viruses. The caller will ask for sensitive inormation including your passwords which gives the hacker full access to your computer.

Another scam involves a hacker posing as an IRS agent asking you for personal information. Phony IRS agents will try to convince you that you owe tax money or you're getting a tax refund.

Police also warn that being on the “Do Not Call” list also doesn’t guarantee protection.
