It would appear that reports of her death were greatly exaggerated.

A woman who could not be resuscitated after an apparent drowning indecent Monday evening on Atlantic City's South Carolina Avenue beach was thought by all on the scene to be dead.

Not so fast.

A day later, word reached responding lifeguards and firefighters that the woman is, in fact, still alive and their drowning victim was a rescue.

The 59-year-old New Hampshire woman, whose identity has not been released, is in the intensive care unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City campus.  Although her condition is not known, this much is: she's alive.

Atlantic City Police say she was pulled out about 200 yards around around 7 pm Monday off of the unguarded beach when she was caught in a rip tide. She was unconscious when she was recovered by the Atlantic City Beach Patrol.

Police say she coded when beach patrol was last involved, so it was communicated to police as a drowning.
