Atlantic City property manager allegedly stole welfare checks and toilet seat

ATLANTIC CITY — A city property manager may have seen her career — and freedom — go down the toilet after allegedly stealing what amounted to less than $900 in government funds and a toilet seat.

Cheryl L. Bradshaw, 59, was charged with second-degree official misconduct and third-degree theft by failure to make required disposition of property received after she was accused of cashing 13 checks that were meant for nine tenants in the Barlinvis Apartments, where she was employed as a manager.

Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said the funds from the checks came from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help the tenants with their utility bills. The 13 checks had a combined value of $826.

In addition to the official misconduct charges, Tyner said Bradshaw allegedly stole a toilet seat from the Atlantic County Improvement Authority and had it installed in her home. The seat, Tyner said, was valued at $9.39.

Bradshaw was terminated by the Pleasantville Housing Authority on February 2. She faces five to 10 years in prison on the official misconduct charge and three to five years on the theft charge.
