Brian Lewis of Pleasantville faces numerous charges, including theft and official misconduct. He surrendered Tuesday to Atlantic County prosecutors and was later released.

An assistant buyer for the authority, Lewis allegedly used his position to access work orders and contracts for construction and home repair work at a public housing complex.

Prosecutors say he created shell companies and billed the authority for work already done by other firms. He then collected duplicate payments.

Lewis also allegedly used his position to award his own businesses contracts for construction and repair work, then failed to do the work despite being paid.

Lewis did not return a phone message seeking comment.
