The speed limit was 70 mph and the toll was just 75 cents. Welcome to the Atlantic City Expressway circa July 31st, 1964.The 44 mile-toll road was officilally opened for a 37 mile strectch through Turnersville, Gloucester County and to the Garden State Parkway in EHT. The expressway will celebrate its 50th anniversary this week.

A Chevrolet convertible driven by a Teaneck man was the first car to offically drive on the toll-road. The expressway would expand into Atlantic City the following year.

Over 1 million cars traveled on the expressway back in 1964 compared to 52 million cars in 2013. The iconic AC Expressway logo has remained the same since it debuted in the summer of 1964.
