It has been a crazy few weeks for long-time Atlantic City boys basketball coach Gene Allen.

At a November 20th  meeting, a complaint was filed by a former player's parent, stating that Allen sent a text message that contained some foul language, which Allen has admitted too, regarding a team banquet.

Allen, who was not present at the Nov 20 meeting, filed a lawsuit against the district and Atlantic County Judge Michael Blee temporarily reinstated the coach a week after his contract was not renewed.

Since that time, Allen has been coaching the team during the preseason, today he learned he will in fact be back on the sidelines, for the 2018-2019 season, which opens this Friday against St. Joe's of Hammonton.

Roday Judge Michael Blee reinstated the coach, who is just 17 wins away from the Vikings school record for victories. The judge made the ruling, stating the coaches rights were violated by the Atlantic City Board of Education back on Nov 20, because he was not given proper notice that he would be terminated as the team's head boys basketball coach.

Allen has led the Vikings to their only three State titles, to go along with six South Jersey titles during his time at the school.

Overall his record is 336-101 since taking over the program in 2003.
