PATERSON — A video circulating on the internet shows a city woman using a hammer to smash the windows out of an SUV that contains her ex-husband and their terrified young children.

The mother was later arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, domestic violence and criminal mischief, city police told NorthJersey.com. Authorities did not publicly release the woman's name.

The video is taken by the man in the driver's seat. It shows the woman smashing the driver's side window, then the cracking the windshield and then smashing the backseat windows were the two crying and screaming children are sitting.

At one point the man, who speaks Spanish, shouts to the woman that she had "cut the baby!"

She continues her rampage, smashing out the rear window and slamming the hammer into the headlights and all over the SUV's body.

The children, also speaking Spanish, cry out "daddy!"

It is not clear from the video what prompted the woman to turn violent, although officials told NorthJersey.com that she was upset over a custody dispute.

The city's police director and spokesman had not returned messages seeking comment Wednesday.

Univision 41 spoke to a man who said the woman was his cousin. He called the situation sad and added that he didn't know what had motivated her.
